fwd: fight against the ICE RAIDS—txt msg alerts

I am forwarding this message that I have received from several different listserves.

I like this idea, and I'm guessing that the folks who put this service together are already on this, but I was thinking of how we could connect people into this who might not have internet access (or very limited), and therefore difficulty in signing up their cell phones to receive these alerts. I feel uncomfortable with the idea of a designated "we" acting as the eyes and ears of our communities and "defending our people." Sounds vanguardish to me. How do we make sure that all of our communities and people are fully networked and connected, and acting together to defend ourselves and one another?

Any ideas?

Hello everyone!

I am sending you this in hopes that you will all sign up for this service so that we can all FIGHT AGAINST the ICE RAIDS!!

This is the idea: This service is basically the same thing as a yahoogroup but it sends out text messages to cell phones instead of emails. This way, if there is an ICE raid or police checkpoint anywhere in Southern California, we can alert all of you via text message so that you can spread the word to your contacts/communities.

By being part of this Network, we will all act as the "eyes and ears" of our communities so that we can defend our people from the constant Migra/Police terrorism. Join today!!! Repost/Spread this message to your contacts to expand this network!

So how will we know when there is an ICE RAID? YOU and the rest of our community will let us know! We have established a STOP THE MIGRA RAIDS HOTLINE which is now operating. When people see an ICE RAID or a Police Checkpoint they can now call this number, leave us a message with the information about the Raid and then our moderators will send out the text message to everyone!

Here is the Hotline Number: 1-562-236-3939

So you know...
1. Not just ANY one can send out text messages on this group. There are moderators for the group so that insure that we don't get prank text messages...etc. This service will be ran/updated by the Frente Contra las Redadas.
2. You do NOT need to give your name or any other information for this service other than your cell phone number.
3. Nobody will have access to your cell phone number, not even the moderators of the group.
4. You must have text messaging available on your cell phone plan.
5. You will incur regular charges per text message received.
6. We will try to limit the number of messages that we send. Currently, we send about 1-2 per week.
7. If you ever decide that you no longer want to receive text messages from us, you may leave the group online.

If you want to join, follow these simple steps:
1. Go to http://www.txtmob.com and register your cell phone #.
2. Once you receive a text message to your cell phone from the website, enter the authorization code.
3. Once you are in, click on "Add group"
4. When the list of groups comes up; add to "FCR_LA" group.

This is a service of the Frente Contra las Redadas!

Ron
Abajo con la Migra!!!
Venceremos!
